Autumn Newsletter
Well, who can believe we’re already halfway through October. This year seems to have flown by even faster than usual. Despite the terrible doom and gloom it’s been great to see most of our regulars again this year plus lots of new guests. It’s been another fabulous summer here with endless days of sunshine and we now welcome Autumn with it’s fabulous mixtures of colours splashed across the rolling countryside with the Sibillini mountains wearing their snow capped hats in the distance. So, what’s been happening at Caserma Carina? We were delighted to welcome artist Doctor Teresa Witz (better known as Tilly to us) a few weeks ago to run our first art holiday. The week was a great success with a new fully inclusive holiday offering artists the chance to visit some stunning scenery for sketching and painting being guided by Teresa’s expertise. In between sketching locally and further a field there was plenty of time for delicious cuisine, wine tasting, relaxing by the pool and visiting the local market. We’ll be adding full details of the holiday and costings within the next few weeks but please e-mail us urgently if you are interested in the next art holiday 14-21 April 2010. Places are limited and we’re already filling up with Teresa’s own students. We will be organising 2 a year so if you don’t manage to join the April trip there will be a further holiday in early October 2010. Teresa is thrilled to have been chosen to participate in the prestigious programme “For the Journey to London 2012 " Art of Olympic and Paralympic Sports Mogliano FestivalMany of you know Mogliano holds a fabulous summer festival during the last week in June and first week in July where the whole town comes alive with dancing, music, re-enactments from 1744 and a grand finale of fireworks to music. Throughout the week Tavernas open up in the historic centre of Mogliano where you can eat local and international cuisine al fresco. Many locals are dressed in period costume and we were asked this year to dress as nobles one evening which was a great honour. Who said we couldn’t scrub up ok?! Just to note we are already fully booked between 26 June and 10 July 2010 apart from Papavero for the week 26 June - 3 July. Swimming pool coverWater temperatures have been considerably higher this year during May, September and October with the use of our new summer evening cover so don’t forget these months as they are so often over-looked and yet such great months to explore the region enjoying long sunny days but without the intense heat of the summer. Wine tasting Dean’s been organising weekly wine tasting trips with our guests to our local La Murola vineyard which has been widely enjoyed by all. This has been completely free of charge this year and for a few euros a head Dean’s looking to extend this slightly next year to include aperitivo – yummy.
Meals on wheels Many of you have enjoyed Luisa’s homemade delights brought straight to your door this year and you’ll be pleased to know she’s extending the menu for 2010 – a reason in itself to return!!
"In The Prison Of His Days" The Memoirs of a Captured Worlds War II Gunner We were very pleased to welcome back John Davison to Caserma Carina along with a copy of his father’s book which has finally been published more than 20 years after his death following John’s discovery of the manuscript in a dusty attic. The book is based on a vivid account of his father’s experiences during the Second World War including his dreadful imprisonment in a German camp at Servigliano, just over half an hours drive from Caserma Carina. John and his family first stayed with us last year for their annual holiday and to visit Servigliano. We were delighted when they returned again this year very proudly holding a copy of the long awaited publication. You can buy this book off Amazon or in many bookstores throughout the UK ISBN 978-0956007582. Free Nudo Adoption Package Take a minimum of 5 nights holiday during November to end April and receive a complimentary olive tree adoption package (worth over £65) where you will receive cold pressed olive oil from your very own tree. During your stay we will take you to see the olive grove and in fact your very own adopted tree. Here goes our fifth recipe - an extremely easy but delicious dessert..........
Mousse Allo Yoghurt
Ingredients2 glasses of milk 1 sachet of gelatine 200g of sugar 1kg of natural yoghurt 125g of fresh cream Fruits of the forest, strawberries, peaches – fruit of your choice Heat the milk in a pan but do not boil. Place the gelatine in cold water for 3-4 minutes until soft then mix in with the hot milk. Add the sugar (or you can replace half the sugar with honey if preferred). Mix until all dissolved then take off the heat and leave to cool for 40 mins. Meanwhile place the cream in a food mixer until whipped nice and thick. Mix together the cool milk, cream and yoghurt. Place the fruit on the bottom of the dish then cover with the cream mixture and place in the fridge.
